Anonymous asked: what's new with you? just assuming you've been really busy or just got super bored with tumblr since you update less frequently now.
aww, thanks for noticing anon <3 - i currently have a less frequent internet connection than i was for quite a while. but i can still answer questions when they come through!
This is a series of maps charting the shrinkage of Native American lands over time, from 1784 to the present day. Made because I was having trouble visualizing the sheer scale of the land loss, and reading numbers like “blah blah million acres” wasn’t really doing it for me. The gif is based on a collection of maps by Sam B. Hilliard of Louisiana State University. You can see the original map here.
For those who do prefer dealing in numbers, here are some:
By 1881, Indian landholdings in the United States had plummeted to 156 million acres. By 1934, only about 50 million acres remained (an area the size of Idaho and Washington) as a result of the General Allotment Act* of 1887. During World War II, the government took 500,000 more acres for military use. Over one hundred tribes, bands, and Rancherias relinquished their lands under various acts of Congress during the termination era of the 1950s.
By 1955, the indigenous land base had shrunk to just 2.3 percent of its original size.

I’m wondering what it means to “queer” something. Can it mean something other than making something about alternative sexuality?
Like, I feel like there’s an academic usage where it’s more about…some shit I…
i think of “queering” as a verb very, very connected w/ its use as a noun, or an identity. it is a marker of an active process of destabilization - “to queer” is to undermine our conceptions of the prime foundations of something. i think it’s resultantly about much more than centering on queer perspectives, or stories in a given topic (examples here that come to mind: the bible, politics).
rather, it’s about putting into question (and active destruction) the relevance, stability, and dominance of narratives around a structure. we should be queering gay suicides (opening up the unhighlighted intersections of racial, class, gender, and sexuality violence w/in schools), queering imperialism (FUCK YOU DADT REPEAL FUCK YOU WAR MACHINES), and continuing to queer ourselves. we are but automatons in capital otherwise. at least this way we can be resistant ones.

petroleusepress: a q&a for men, prepared by the nothing.
“If you send us money within the next five days, we’ll even send you a membership card that will help keep you from getting beat up! (It’s also a great thing to show feminist women who you’re trying to bone!) We suggest you give generously, as your level of donation will be reflected on your membership card by number and color of holographic stripes. It’s like, every $50 is a drink you don’t have to buy her, you know?”
I’m pretty invested in practicing good consent. Everyone should be invested in practicing good consent! I haven’t always been perfect at practicing consent though, and I’m still learning. Considering that I hadn’t even heard of the concept of consent beyond “no means no” until I was 18, I think…
on the “general interests” question: a fun thing i did w/ someone was when we sat down to go through http://www.humansexmap.com/ (trauma warning: lists many, many varied sexual acts, in a cute graphic making it out to be a “map of human sexuality”). it gave us a chance to both talk (and joke) about things we were interested in doing w/ each other over time.
i also think it’d be cool to have a specific list of questions for specific acts that folks have as an ongoing practice (like, y’know, if you have a partner/friend/lover/cuddler w/ whom you all have a few distinct things you’ve come to enjoy doing together, again and again (w/ all of the fun variation or non-variation you like)):
- what’s yr previous experiences like w/ this kind of interaction? what’s made them (non)-notable, positive or negative?
- what do you enjoy about how we’ve been practicing this? where do you think we can improve?
- is this something we should check-in about as frequently/more frequently/less frequently? how do you feel about this becoming a normal part of our activities?
ALSO - those questions also seem appropriate as a jump-off to a consent practice check-in conversation as well.
but those’re just more suggestions. this seems like a really great list of questions to help frame (on-going) consent and consent practice conversations, and i hope that i can use this as a jumping-off list in the future.
oh and WOOPS - this is noqueerflags on stay gold’s tumblr. :P
woops. this is what happens when you use the same computer for a while. :P
By definition, white privilege is not earned. Wise doesn’t have to do anything to gain access to the benefits assigned to the social construct of racialized whiteness. Even his apparent efforts to expose it have not caused the white establishment to banish him or treat him like a person of…
please please please please please listen to and center the experiences of people of color when talking about dismantling/ending/attacking/negating systems of racism and white privilege. PLEASE? please. queerfury seems like a really useful project to have on something like tumblr, because of its want to address radical racially diverse and queer communities (and call out us white kids on our fucked-up exercising of privilege along the way). or maybe i’m reading way too much into this/talking for other people.
anyways please read this piece, and its previous two parts. and all of this blog, always. please. new favorite tumblr.
(TRIGGER WARNING FOR RAPE AND PHYSICAL VIOLENCE) Olympia: Beware of rapist Davi Rios.
Davi Rios is a rapist. The person she raped requested that this information be made public. She has been deceptive about her history of raping people when getting together with new partners. She has gotten people high before raping them. She has physically assaulted someone before raping that person. She is a piece of shit. There is a possibility that she may flee to Canada.
Reblog the shit out of this.
